Freedom And Creativity

With freedom comes responsibility.You are responsible to be a creative person, how ever you chose to express your creativity, it is important. If you don’t, the world will be less bright. Countless people will miss out on what you could have made.

With freedom comes creativity. We are inherently creative creatures. As you grow in freedom from addiction you will grow in creativity. Building, making, crafting. Something from nothing.

Creativity is the ultimate expression of freedom. Art, music, dance, poetry, athletics, intimacy, starting a business. When done best these come out of one’s deepest passions, a drive to express, create, connect.

Creativity is one of the highest expressions of love. Love is the creative expression of freedom in a relationship. To love well is to use one’s imagination. Great intimacy requires creativity.

Intimacy happens in the moment. In the moment is the only way you can respond with your gut feelings. A deep love requires showing up and being in the flow of the moment with another.

This kind of love inspires creativity.

Creativity inspires freedom. Beauty motivates. Art engages with who you are and who you can become.

Foster creativity in your life. We are naturally creative as children. Sometimes it takes effort and courage to build creativity as adults. If you take time to play and be creative you will grow in gratitude, beauty, and a better life. You will develop the ability to enjoy the moment.

Here are some ideas to inspire creativity. Chose the one that excites you most or makes you feel the most uncomfortable. Sometimes we need to lighten up, let loose, and play.

  1. Go to some kind of creative store: an art supply store, fabric shop, or music store.
  2. See an award-winning movie or a foreign film.
  3. Have a technology-free day.
  4. Go to a local festival, music event, art show, play, museum exhibit, etc.
  5. Plant something. Start a garden.
  6. Spend 20 minutes going through your books. Choose some to read or re-read and some to give to charity.
  7. Go to a thrift store. Give yourself $5 to spend and find something really great that you can do something creative with.
  8. Go on a hike on a nature trail.
  9. Write a letter – longhand, on nice paper – to an old friend.
  10. Send a care package to your best friend or to a family member… just because. Take time and care to put loving and thoughtful things into it. Be creative. Make things. Be as careful with the packaging as you are with what you actually put into it. Include notes and loving sentiments. Get as much from it as they will in receiving it.
  11. Go to Home Depot with $10 in your pocket. See what cool things you can find there to create and art project with that $10 (only). Go crazy.
  12. Choose an artistic mentor. Take time to read their books, watch their videos, learn about their life as an artist. Let them inspire you.
  13. Go to a beautiful place, take your journal or sketchbook and start drawing.
  14. Move your body. Try dancing, Tai Chi, Pilates, yoga, etc.
  15. Light a candle. Write a poem.
  16. Plan a road trip.
  17. Watch a fascinating documentary.
  18. Write a letter to the person you plan to be in ten years.
  19. Write a letter to your parents. Write about why you are grateful for them. If they are still alive, send the letter.
  20. Go to the library and find a book on a topic that you know very little about but that looks very interesting to you. Check it out. Read it.
  21. Make a list of 30 things that you give yourself permission to do that make you happy.
  22. Find a fun, new creative blog to read.
  23. Spend a day in complete silence.
  24. Color in a coloring book.
  25. Go to a local farmer’s market.
  26. Play at a park.  Swing.  Slide.  Hang from monkey bars.
  27. Carve out an hour and write notes, letters and cards to those you love.  Mail them.
  28. Help someone without them knowing.
  29. Create your own list of creative ways to spend your time.
